Development-matters-30-50-months

In Early Years we have always encouraged parents to contribute to our children’s Learning Journals. Maths with Parents has been a great help with this and we welcome Wow Moments throughout the year sharing achievements at home and in hobbies. We know that our Richmond Hill parents look forward to taking their children’s Learning Journal home with them at the end of the year as a great keepsake showing their start in school. With this is mind we hope you can help us to continue documenting the journeys our children are taking through Early Years. 

Above shows ‘Development Matters’ statutory guidance we use to support every child’s learning and development. Development Matters 30-50 Month band is a guidance for our Nursery children. Development Matters 40-60 Month band is a guidance for our Reception children. 

Observe your children as they act and interact in their play, everyday activities and planned activities, and make short notes of what you observe them doing independently. Take photos and when we return to school we will invite you to share your(or their) favourite 5 photos with us and these, along with your valuable observations, will go into Learning Journals to show what a fabulous job you are all doing at home and how much children can develop in a (hopefully) short space of time.

Key Learning for our Early Years children is  Read Write Inc Phonics, we have direct links to the RWI site with guidance for parents and resources for you to share with your child/ren.  A little bit and often is the best way forward to keep their current skill level active – enjoy and make learning fun!

Daily virtual lessons for children

From Monday 23rd March we’re scheduling Read Write Inc. Phonics lessons on Facebook and YouTube for children to watch at home.
We will release three short Speed Sound lessons with one of our trainers every day for the next two weeks. The films will only be available at the times below:
  • Set 1 Speed Sounds at 9.30 am and again at 12.30 pm
  • Set 2 Speed Sounds at 10.00 am and again at 1.00 pm
  • Set 3 Speed Sounds at 10.30 am and again at 1.30 pm
Please note: the films are streamed live and won’t be available at other times.
We’re also releasing a film of a poem for Reception and Year 1 children to join in with at 2.00 pm every day. The poems will be available on YouTube to watch again and again. 
A great opportunity for children to learn these by heart!
Films for parents
Films for parents to help their child learn to read at home with Read Write Inc. Phonics are available on our website and YouTube channel. The YouTube channel will have a quick face-lift to help parents find the films easily. We’re adding a parent film to Facebook every day too.

Nursery is a very exciting time for young children. They are learning some of the most important lessons in life; to explore, take on challenges, and socialise with other children. They are beginning to develop independence and consideration for others. For some children it is the first time they have ever been away from their grown-ups.

Home visits for our new Nursery children are a very important part of our induction arrangements to ensure your child has a smooth transition from home or their present Early Years provider. Our Nursery children are given a two week transition period at the end of the current academic year; this is a time for them to become familiar with their new environment, the adults they will learn together with and changes in their daily routines. This gives our youngest children a great start for September making transition as seamless as possible.


During an academic year our children make lots of progress, develop self-confidence and learning behaviours in readiness for starting full time school the following September.

At Richmond Hill Primary Academy we offer Both 30 hours and 15 hours over a two and half days, we also offer extra fee paying sessions if requested:

Monday & Tuesday 9.00am-3.15pm
Wednesday 9.00am-12.00pm
Wednesday 12.20pm-3.20pm
Thursday & Friday 9.00am-3.15pm

 

A major part of school readiness is that we ask parents to pick their child up on time as lateness can be very upsetting for young children.

Current Learning:

How do Buildings Stay Up?

The wolf huffed, and he puffed, but he couldn’t blow the house down! How does that building stay up? How many windows does it have? It’s time to find out more about buildings and the materials from which they are made.
Using Google Earth we have investigated buildings, looking at our local community using both the birds eye view and street view.  In the classroom, we’ll handle different building materials, and we’ll build structures out of wet sand, construction kits and blocks. Who can build the tallest tower? We’ll also retell the story of The Three Little Pigs, practise hammering different surfaces and make mini mud bricks. In our English lessons, we’ll take a walk down our virtual local street, describing what we see, and we’ll write about our homes. Using our maths skills, we’ll count houses and put them in the right order, and we’ll estimate how many cubes are in different towers. Working together, we’ll build a shelter big enough for us all to sit in, a bridge we can use to cross a given space and a street of colourful houses made from different containers. We’ll also work outdoors on our own ‘construction site’, building imaginative structures out of a range of materials.
We’ll also gather resources to build more structures and demolish a wall of cardboard boxes by kicking, rolling and throwing balls.
