Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

In Year 3 we continue to develop competent and confident learners who have the key skills, knowledge and personal characteristics for a successful future learning career.

We help the children to build upon and extend the knowledge and understanding they developed in KS1, increasingly advancing their mastery of the Key Stage 1 curriculum and move in to Stage 3 learning.

Throughout the year, learning remains active with engaging, child-led topics which help to create an exciting approach to the curriculum.

In the Autumn term we take a geographical focus on Our World, looking at the different countries and continents. We also cover Titanic, looking at its journey and its history.

We will cover a variety of texts in this term, which will lead us nicely up to Christmas.

Home Learning

Home learning is important to help children practise and consolidate the skills taught in the classroom. We ask that homework is completed nearly, in pencil, in their books and returned to school by the date set.

Children are expected to read at least five times a week and to record this in their reading diaries in order to receive ‘Reading Raffle Challenge’. Additionally, children will have weekly spelling lists to practise for testing in school. English and Maths homework is sent home each week as detailed below.
